Hand Painted Velvet Cushion – MUSCAT – SOLD

Hand Painted Velvet Cushion
€ 149 – SOLD

Dutch Designer Annyta Lolyta gives us raining beauty in “MUSCAT,” a three-tiered hand painted velvet cushion. Notice how the middle band of ANNYTA’S HAND-EMBOSSED DESIGN seems to give birth to her free-style, hand-painted tier just below. And on top we have a band of gold, an appropriate color for a hand painted velvet cushion named after arguably the most beautiful Arab capital city – Muscat, Oman.

Did Annyta paint a PURPLE DESERT GAZELLE in that bottom section? And an ABSTRACT CAMEL ALONGSIDE of it? The colors blend so beautifully, but also in such a surprising way, that shapes appear to take on their own character – which is just one reason why Annyta’s artwork is so appealing.
Can you imagine what it would be like to have this beautiful Arabian capital in your home or office?

For similar inspirations with embossing and hand painted designs, have a look at Annyta Lolyta’s LOOK AT ME!, BREAKING WAVES I, ARDASHIR or COCO. Maybe COCO doesn’t necessarily fit the group, but she’s such a show-off pillow that she always wants people to look at her.

Simply described, MUSCAT is a rectangular hand painted velvet cushion with three bands: sand-green on top / blue-purple with an embossed relief in the middle / and a hand painted bottom with purple, red, light blue and orange shapes on a light brown background. But this pillow is aptly named after the beautiful capital city of Oman. The purple shapes seems to dance into desert animal shapes like an Arabian gazelle or camel. The orange shapes remind us of the power of the desert sun. Doesn’t it seem like this bottom section fell out of the embossing of deep purple like a desert mirage?
Well, these are the kind of thoughts I have when I look at this artist’s work on velvet. Dutch designer Annyta Lolyta can emboss or stamp or paint or print on velvet in such colorful and creative ways that these no longer seem to be velvet cushions. They are works of art in their own right.
Here are some other examples of Annyta’s combining her embossing and painting skills: LOOK AT ME!, BREAKING WAVES I, ARTAXERXES or ARDASHIR. All Velvet Matters products are handmade in the Netherlands by Annyta. Since 1995, she has been making exclusive, hand-printed scarves and other fashion accessories. The Velvet Matters webshop now brings Annyta’s specialized velvet accessories to the world.

Annyta’s speciality is printing on velvet, a craft that she learned in England and has developed and refined ever since. She has a distinct style, combining different fabrics with a wonderful sense of color and form.

Each handmade velvet cushion is an original work of art. Annyta always uses changeant or shot silk velvet in all of her work. This is an ultra-soft, ultra-long-lasting type of high-quality velvet. This material is Annyta Lolyta’s trademark, because it gives a rich and mysterious two-tone effect.

Our velvet is made of 63% acetate and 37% viscose.
Our felt is 70% wool and 30% polyester fiber.

NOTE #1: Our cushions are filled with down feathers. If you want to buy just the cushion cover with no fill or substitute another type of fill, please contact us.
Note #2: Velvet Matters products become more alive and beautiful with age. But please protect them. Even though we use the highest high quality changeant or shot-silk velvet, prolonged exposure to bright sunlight might cause some fading or discolouring. For maintenance tips see the FAQ.
Note #3: Just like dating-site photographs, our Velvet Matters cushion colours might look just a little different in reality. But don’t worry, unlike dating sites, our velvet cushions are always even more beautiful in real life – it’s just that maybe, once in a while, they might look a little different from the web photos.
